Artistic Treats

So I got on the internet to check my e-mail and as always browsed Yahoo news before logging in. I was a little sad to see this bit of news just because I always play with half my oreo cookie and creme before eating it, but it never occured to me to make art. Apparently, it occurred to someone. A woman has been making oreo art and I have to say it is amazing. It just goes to show that one should think outside the box. There just aren't as many possibilities in it. Here's the link in case anyone wants to take a look at the pictures: http://news.yahoo.com/photos/oreo-cameos-1311032095-slideshow/

I wonder if this was just a random thing she did one day and decided to pursue it or if she sat down and brainstormed ideas for things not seen before. Just a few minutes ago, I looked over at my M&Ms bag and got an idea. Unfortunately for me, I can't do the art out of food. It wouldn't last in my house, I eat too much. For those of you who are particularly talented, get a few bags of M&Ms, find a recipe for taffy (or any edible sticky stuff), get a picture frame or shadow box (anything with some type of frame), and see what images you can create with the M&Ms. If I wasn't so tempted to eat them, I'd give this a try.

Another treat I've noticed with an artistic flare, I found in a Disney Family Fun magazine. The creator of this refreshing delight took a popsicle mold, strawberry and lemon sorbet, food coloring, and mini chocolate chips to create what looks like watermelon on a stick. I think it's pretty clever. It makes me think back to a few Christmases ago. I remember seeing a tray of mice at a party. The mice were made of Hershey's Kisses, cherries (stems on and dipped in chocolate), and almond slices. Again, pretty clever. One I've come up with on my own are Bumble Bee Berries. Using white and milk/dark chocolate, you can stripe strawberries (leaves off) for bodies. Cherries dipped in milk/dark chocolate can be the torso and head. Putting the body together before the chocolate cools will look great. Of course it isn't a complete idea since I don't know what to use for wings or antennae. Any ideas?

With so many birthdays coming up, my wheels have been turning for ideas and hopefully I'll remember these for my kids' birthday parties next year. Take some of the ideas I've posted here and make them your own. Make a splash at your next party and until next time, take care and strive for a new idea today.
